Uwezo’s annual household education survey assesses whether children of primary school age can perform literacy and numeracy skills at the Standard 2 level. In addition to the tests that are administered to all primary school age children, a survey book capturing demographic information is completed in every village, every household visited and every sampled school. In addition to assessing competency levels of children, demographic information is collected allowing for robust analysis of educational outcomes for various subgroups of the population. Broadly speaking, the household survey sheet captures data on preschool attendance, schooling status, competency level per child and other demographic information. The school data sheet collects data on student enrolment, number of teachers, attendance levels of both students and teachers, funding status and information about the headteacher. The village information sheet captures data on education and health. These survey booklets are referred to as the Assessment tools and are available for download here.
